Algebra – Ratios and Proportions

If you were to stroll along LA's iconic Venice Beach Promenade, what would you see? Street food, skaters, beach-goers, surfers, and street performance art... including live math lessons. Wait, what?

 

It's true. We called it "Teach on the Beach," where we set up a simple whiteboard and connected to folks from around the world while sharing math topics. In this case, we discuss ratios and proportions.

 

Ratios and proportions is our way of working with rational numbers (basically, fractions) to see if they're equal. We use both traditional methods, such as cross multiplication, as well as not traditional methods, that are intuition based and humanly creative. There are always multiple ways to solve problems, both in math, and in life.
